The Woodbridge ‘Ice Rink’

Ice coats tree branches along Smoketown Road.

It’s skating time here in Woodbridge, as a veneer of ice is covering almost everything. Cars, driveways, trees, anything that doesn’t move or have salt or chemicals applied is encased in ice. Prince William County Schools, as well as pretty much every other school district in the Washington, DC metropolitan area are closed (Code Red for PWCS). Also, all activities associated with PWCS today have been cancelled or postponed.

The ice shouldn’t remain all day, however, as temperatures are expected to rise in the area and reach the high 30s or low 40s. Still, the ice has caused trouble on area roadways, as police and fire personnel have responded to a number of area accidents. Last night, I-95 was closed briefly after several tractor trailers crashed causing fuel to leak.
