Backyard Beauty

Along the water's edge on the hiking trail at Veterans Memorial Park, Woodbridge, Va.

Mon., Nov. 8 — Beauty is where you find it, and sometimes it’s right in your backyard — that is, our common backyard as residents of Woodbridge. We’re introducing this regular feature to share with visitors to and use it as a forum to display the beauty that we come across in our daily lives.

The photo above was shot late last week along the hiking path at Veterans Memorial Park, which is right next door to the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The light this time of year in the afternoon is spectacular. We’ve got some amazingly beautiful places to visit within a short drive nearby in addition to these two. There’s Leesylvania State Park, Prince William Forest Park and Chopawamsic Backcountry Area to the south; to the east there’s Pohick Bay Regional Park, Mason Neck State Park and Potomac Shoreline Regional Park; and a little north of here you’ll find Occoquan Regional Park, Sandy Run Regional Park, Fountainhead Regional Park and Burke Lake Park.

Let us know about some of your favorite spots. And if you’re interesting in submitting any of your photos for us to post, please send them to:
