Lorton Fire Claims Three Lives

Wed., Sept. 22 — A fire in a Lorton townhouse claimed the lives of a 24-year-old mother and her two youngest children early today.

Fire officials said they believed the fire began at about 8:30 am in a townhouse at 9639 Hagel Circle. The mother apparently was trapped on the second floor of the townhouse along with her five children. Witnesses said the woman dropped three of her children from a second-floor window to a man reported to be her uncle below and was last seen leaving the window. Witnesses and fire officials said there was a subsequent explosion. She never returned.

Officials found three bodies inside, two children and an adult woman. Read more details at FairfaxTimes.com, WashingtonExaminer.com or WashingtonPost.com.
